Soldier of Orange
''Soldier of Orange'' is a 1977 Dutch film directed by Paul Verhoeven and produced by Rob Houwer, starring Rutger Hauer and Jeroen Krabbé. The film is set during the German occupation of the Netherlands during World War II, and shows how individual students have different roles in the war. The story is based on the book ''Soldaat van Oranje'' by Erik Hazelhoff Roelfzema, who lived the story himself. The film had a budget of €2,300,000, at the time the most expensive Dutch movie ever. Theresienstadt (film)
In the summer of 1944 the Nazi government perpetrated a hoax against the Danish Red Cross by taking them on a tour of the Theresienstadt concentration camp in the Sudetenland, occupied Czechoslavakia. They fixed up and cleaned the camp prior to arrival and arranged cultural activities to give the appearance of a happy, industrious community. They even sent a considerable part of its population to their deaths in Auschwitz to cover up the overpopulation of the camp. More »

The Legend of Paul and Paula

However, due to the film's political overtones it was almost not released; East German leader Erich Honecker personally decided to allow it to be shown.
